Project #4: Adjusting Sound Level (Electronic)

When we read the title for this project, we weren't really sure what to expect. We did noticed that it used a Whistle Chip and a speaker much like Project 3 (of the electronic kits). After glancing over the manual, we snapped the pieces together, and popped in the batteries. As soon as we turned the circuit on, music began to play from the speaker (the same music from Project 3). However it was very low. You could barely hear it. We could make it play again by clapping next to the Whistle Chip, and touching the base.

After looking back at the manual, it stated that by adding a resistor to the circuit, we changed the amount of current that goes to the speaker, thus reducing the amount of sound produced by the speaker. This was the cause of the low sound.

Video of the finished project:

Watch us turn on the project and hear that wonderful ice cream truck music again, just at a lower volume. Also examine as Diana tries to break the circuit board, unintentionally.
